Medicare Advantage Plans

2003 will remain in American history as a year that changed the senior health insurance scenario forever. This was the year that President George W. Bush announced the arrival of a product that would offer extra benefits to members. Thus arrived the Part D Prescription plan for good. In fact, the Medicare Modernization Act, as it was called, not only established the Part D plan strongly but also lent a hand to revive what we now know as Medicare Advantage plans. Though visibly different from Medicare supplement plans, advantage plans are supposed to give the former some stiff competition. But that was not the case some time back. For several years, Advantage plans were not looked upon favorably by insurance brokers since they were thought to be a passing concept that would not stand the test of time.

Presently, though, Medicare Advantage plans have many takers and are preferred to even supplemental plans. While the latter are considered vehicles to cover the areas unchartered by the original Medicare plan, Advantage plans went a step further to ensure that members have the best of benefits and the most of freedom. The Modernization Act instantaneously changed the fate of Medicare Part C that went off the market immediately. Instead people now had the chance to choose from something wider and more flexible. Here’s why you too can find a Medicare Advantage plan superior-

Wide access- This is one of the most basic features that mark plans under Medicare Advantage. Approximately one out of every five Americans has enrolled for some private plan or other under Medicare Advantage. Though this can still be called more of an urban trend, suburban areas too are fast catching up. The best thing about Medicare Advantage plans is that rates are not decided as per factors like the gender or age of the member. They’re dependant solely on the operating area or the service dimensions of the plan in question.

Choices in aplenty- If you are Medicare eligible, there’s no reason why you won’t find a Medicare Advantage plan that suits your budget and health requirements at the same time. You’ll be spoilt for choices as far as these plans go since you can access every possible variety of private plans. Be it a Private Fee for Service (PFFS) plan, a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plan, a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan or a Medical Savings Account (MSA), you’ll always find a wide number of choices.

Innumerable health benefits- Now that Medicare Advantage plans are really popular, the reason is clear. These plans offer benefits that go beyond those offered by the original Medicare plan. Apart from the basic advantages, most Medicare Advantage plans offer physician services along with hospital care and even prescription drug benefits. Also, one can have the choice of selecting between high premiums and low ones (as per requirement and convenience).
